Entropy and the Need for Care

Entropy describes how, without added energy, systems tend to move toward disorder.

It is a fascinating scientific concept, but it can also offer a helpful image for daily life. At home, things may be left unattended. In relationships, there may be distance, tension, or the same argument repeating. Inside, it may feel harder to rest, think clearly, or know what you need.

Often, the early signs are easy to ignore. We minimize what we feel, brush off support, withdraw, stay busy, or return to old ways. What once helped us get through may begin to feel strangely familiar, even when it is no longer good for us.

We can begin to bring energy back into daily life through simple forms of care:

  • Journal
  • Walks in nature
  • Talking with a therapist
  • Conversations with a kind friend
  • Simple nourishing meals

Care does not make life simple. But it can help us notice what is happening, respond earlier, and make different choices before things become harder to manage.
